How Mobile Ad Spend is divided

Mobile ad spend is divided in 3 categories:

  1. Display Ads. In 2008, $21 million was spent on display advertising. It is projected in 2013, $567 (18% of total pie) million will be spent on display ads.
  2. Search. In 2008, $39 million was spent on mobile search. $2.3 billion (73% of total pie) is expected to be spent on mobile search in 2013.
  3. SMS. In 2008, $100 million was spent on SMS. In 2013, it is projected that spend for SMS will be $270 million (9% of total pie).

The biggest change is the decline in SMS advertising and the large growth in search.
