A slight twist from Foursquare, new event check in apps allow you to share things you are doing with your friends. Watching a movie or at a concert, why not tell your friends. With Miso you can gain points and badges. Shows and Advertisers will likely be giving away prizes for Miso fans who have earned certain badges or have checked-in the most times. Take a look at Miso in work by playing the video below.
I have to agree with MG Siegler at Techcrunch, there is nothing special beyond the badge you get for checking-in at the movies, but eventually these types of check-ins could unlock special content from films, for example. There could also be sweepstakes you could enter by checking-in.
Another event check in app is Hot Potato which connects friends and fans around live events. With Hot Potato you can plan future events and also interact with events happening now. You can chat about the event, upload photos and other digital content. Hot Potato is integrated with Foursquare, so when you create an event you can enter a location or simply pick it from a list of venues that already exist in Foursquare. A calendar feature also exist that allows you to add events to your calendar. Can’t wait to try this out.
[By the way, you can read about other check-in apps like TagWhat here]
