An easy way to measure your Online Share of Voice?

January 15, 2010 · Leave a Comment

What is your Online Share of Voice on the Internet?

Since we as Marketers do not have access to website traffic data for our competitors, nor do we know how much they are spending in digital media, here is a little tip on how to gauge your online share of voice in the marketplace. First you should pull traffic data for your site and your top 4 competitors from Compete.com.

If you haven’t used Compete, it is a powerful tool that can help you track the competition. In addition to providing website traffic, it will also tell you what keywords are popular for all brands, what affiliate links, and more.

Back to internet share of voice, I not only like to compare competitor unique visitor data for my clients, but also show an estimate of how much money the competition is spending online (since we know that paid search and online display have the highest correlation with website traffic). By pulling unique visitor data from Compete, we can show the percentage of ‘digital share of voice’.

From looking at the example above, we can see that recently Budlight.com has been taking over as its online share of voice has increased the past two months. How is this helpful? Tracking this will provide a benchmark as to how much share of online voice you have with your online advertising budget.

This is just one of the insights you can get out of Compete.com. There is much more insight you can pull especially when it comes to search. Feel free to download any of my free advertising data analysis tutorials here. Thanks!

With the extensive reach of mobile devices and more people using their mobile to browse the Web, mobile advertising has quickly become an essential way for online marketers to engage and ultimately generate more revenue from this audience.

According to Juniper Research, global spending on mobile Internet advertising will be $500 million this year.

Mobile advertising provides click-through rates ten times higher than traditional online advertising and the unique ability to effectively target a broad demographic of consumers.

So in order to know where they should invest their marketing dollars, online marketers need to turn to mobile analytics tools to obtain accurate data, target and personalize their offering and to measure campaign ROI.

Ask any marketer what it thinks the key for running a successful campaign is and the answer will be “good customer engagement” – capturing the attention of quality prospects and getting them to efficiently click through to the site and achieve a specific goal.

Google Finally Announces Mobile Analytics

via: Brysonmeunier.com

Nearly two years ago, Google Analytics was noticeably absent from my review of available mobile analytics packages. It was still possible to use Google Analytics to track smartphones, to some extent, but my unscientific test showed their solution wasn’t as accurate as mobile analytics packages that didn’t rely on JavaScript for tracking. Omniture and Coremetrics had since developed a mobile tracking solution, and the mobile analytics-only players that were developed in the absence of a prior mobile analytics solution for Google Analytics and other web analytics players had improved their solutions over time, but Google Analytics was late to the game.

This week they’ve arrived. According to the Google Analytics blog, Google Analytics will soon be able to track mobile devices and applications by adding a server side code snippet to a page. Great news for mobile marketers and SEOs on Google Analytics who have been holding out for a mobile analytics solution that was integrated with their desktop analytics.

The expanded reporting hasn’t appeard in my Google Analytics yet, but when it does I will have more information on how to use Google Analytics to get insight into mobile users.

Mobile Ad Network offers Mobile Web Analytics

via: Mobivity

Mobile Visions, Inc., a leader in mobile messaging, marketing and mobile web site reporting solutions, today announced the beta launch of Mobilytics™ (http://www.mobilytics.net), the first completely free hosted mobile web site specific web analytics solution that generates revenue for mobile web site publishers.

Traditional web analytics collect detailed visitor information using browser technologies that are not available on most mobile phones. Because of this, mobile web site statistics are inaccurate and unreliable in performing visitor analysis. Detailed analytical information that is easily available for Internet web sites is simply not possible on the mobile web.

Mobilytics has been built from the ground up as a mobile only analytics solution. The Mobilytics technology can identify unique mobile users, and track their visits through a site. In addition to providing correct statistics and metrics, Mobilytics provides detailed information and analytics based on mobile phone manufacturers, models and specific handset capabilities.

“If a mobile site owner wants to know what percentage of their visitors support streaming video, Mobilytics can tell them,” says Greg Harris, CEO of Mobile Visions, Inc. “More importantly, Mobilytics can show you exactly where your advertising dollar is going. Are you paying for ads that are clicked on by search engine crawlers? Are they desktop pc users? Mobilytics can answer all this and more.” read full article here
