Blockbuster is letting select T-Mobile subscribers buy and watch the latest movie releases right from their mobile phones.

Blockbuster On Demand lets T-Mobile subscribers download movies onto the upcoming HTC HD2 smartphone. Blockbuster will announce partnerships with different manufacturers and carriers later in the year.

“We want to provide access to entertainment for our customers wherever, whenever and however our customers want to access it,” said Bruce Anderson, senior vice president of Blockbuster On Demand, Dallas.

Multichannel delivery
The collaboration with T-Mobile is part of Blockbuster’s multichannel delivery platform which includes stores, vending kiosks, by-mail subscriptions and the Blockbuster On Demand digital delivery system.

It looks like the Amazon Kindle reader will have a new competitor. Google will soon launch Google Editions, a bit different than Amazon and Barnes & Noble – in that Google’s store will not be device specific. This will allow for e-books purchased through Google Editions to be read on the far greater number of e-book readers that are expected to grow in the near future.

When will the Google e-book store launch?

Sometime in the first half of 2010.

How many book titles will it have?

Approximately 500,000 at launch.

How is Google compensated?

Publishers will receive about 63 percent of the gross sales, and Google will keep the remaining 37 percent.
